India and France are moving closer to finalising a major defence agreement worth around €300 million (approximately ₹3,200 crore) for the procurement of additional SCALP long-range cruise missiles for the Indian Air Force. The deal reflects the growing strategic and defence partnership between the two countries and aims to strengthen India’s precision-strike capabilities. The SCALP missile, also known as Storm Shadow, is a long-range air-launched cruise missile designed for high-precision strikes on strategic targets. The system is integrated with India’s Rafale fighter jets, enabling the aircraft to strike targets from long distances while remaining outside heavily defended airspace. India’s interest in expanding its SCALP missile inventory has increased following the weapon’s successful operational use by the Indian Air Force during Operation Sindoor, where the missile reportedly demonstrated strong accuracy and deep-strike capability against terrorist infrastructure.
