India is set to deepen its collaboration with Finland in the field of Arctic and polar research, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said following discussions with Finnish President Alexander Stubb during his visit to India. According to Modi, both countries agreed to strengthen scientific cooperation related to the Arctic region, including joint research initiatives and knowledge exchange between institutions working on climate and polar studies. Alongside polar research, India and Finland also discussed expanding partnerships in education and skill development. This includes cooperation in teacher training programmes, academic research, and stronger connections between educational institutions in both countries. The leaders also welcomed progress on a migration and mobility agreement, which aims to facilitate greater movement of researchers, professionals, and students between the two countries. The initiative is expected to help link India’s innovation ecosystem with Finland’s advanced research and technology environment. During the talks, both sides highlighted opportunities to expand collaboration in high-technology sectors such as artificial intelligence, 6G telecommunications, clean energy, quantum technologies, semiconductors, defence, and space research. The discussions reflect a broader effort by India and Finland to strengthen their strategic partnership and promote joint work in science, technology, and sustainable development.
