NatWest Group is intensifying its focus on India by investing $250,000 to $2 million in early-stage startups, particularly in AI, payments, and digital solutions, as part of its strategy to build strong tech partnerships and scale innovation. The bank is expanding its India engineering footprint, planning to hire 3,000 additional engineers across its three existing Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in Bengaluru, Gurugram, and Chennai, where it already employs around 17,000 people. Over 50% of NatWest’s engineering talent is based in India, making it the bank’s largest engineering hub globally. NatWest’s Digital X vertical is key to delivering customer-facing digital solutions, with 80% of its nearly 20 million customers interacting primarily online. The bank is focusing on applied AI skills to harness technology for business improvements, partnering with OpenAI to enhance customer experience via advanced conversational AI like its chatbot, Cora. India’s thriving ecosystem of more than 1,700 GCCs generates over $60 billion in revenue and is growing faster than the overall sector, positioning India as a critical hub for high-end engineering and digital innovation that NatWest is eager to leverage.
